iOS Emergency App
Personal Project | 2017
In an emergency, having the right resources at the right time can be the difference between life & death. Recognizing this long ago, we’ve built emergency resources into the fabric of our societies. Emergency rooms, public defibrillators, the Heimlich maneuver, & the 911 system are all examples of our society’s built-in, life-saving preparation. As technology advances in the 21st century so should our systems of emergency response. With 248 Million Americans now carrying data-connected phones, the developers of those phones have a role to play in helping with emergencies and saving lives. In May 2017, I led an independent design exploration of how Apple, as an extension of their stated commitment to user health, could build emergency resources & response directly into iOS.
UXing a UX Curriculum
Teaching at General Assembly | 2017
In early 2017, I took the UX Design Immersive at General Assembly to hone & update my UX skillset. On the last day, I was approached by my lead instructor Mike Morales with a compelling offer. Mike wanted me to teach the next UXDI class with him & help him reshape the curriculum & classroom experience. Over the next several months Mike & I would: revamp the majority lessons, exercises, & projects; completely re-scaffold the systems of student evaluation & guidance; create & pilot a new instructor onboarding process; and create & pilot a new program bridging the design and development programs at GA. These improvements at every level resulted in genuinely astonishing student progress and are currently being considered for adoption by GA’s global product team.
Housingis Network
Trellon | 2016
Today in the United States, 2.2 Million Americans live in public housing [1]. Serving these communities and understanding the complex network of services and systems that they rely on, is the work of great organizations like CLPHA (The Council for Large Public Housing Authorities). In 2017, CLPHA — with generous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — launched the HousingIs Initiative to foster better communication and collaboration between industry sectors and industry experts. The centerpiece of the initiative is the HousingIs Clearinghouse, a digital space where organizations and experts can come together to share and discuss resources related to public housing. While working at Trellon, I owned & executed 100% of the design process from early strategic planning with stakeholders to the execution of final designs.
Nat. Democracy Institute
Trellon | 2016
In many corners of the globe today, democracy is a precious and often fragile institution. Since 1983, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) has been working tirelessly to promote, support, and strengthen democratic institutions in countries across the world. Using their expansive network of 27 thousand local partners, in more than 50 field offices worldwide, NDI works to strengthen civic organizations, safeguard elections, and promote citizen participation in government. Shortly after joining Trellon, I led the redesign of NDI’s online presence including their organizational site, their network of 136 country pages, and their highly trafficked global elections calendar.
